Candy lily is a flower that looks extremely similar to the blackberry lily (Belamcanda chinensis) from which it is a cross, although the color choices are more varied. Smaller than the blackberry lily with more blooms, the candy lilies in my garden bloomed several weeks earlier than my blackberry lilies. They require very little care other than watering and are reported to self seed. Although this is the first year I have planted them, I am pleased with the results and will have to see if they return next year. If you would like a flower that is exotic-looking, undemanding, and blooms for over three weeks, the candy lily is the treat for you.

Please note that the Zones listed above are USDA Hardiness Zones and are only given as a rough indication of whether a plant will grow and thrive in your area. Temperature variations and unusual weather conditions can affect plant survival. To assist plant survival during the winter, you may wish to place mulch over the areas in question or plant the flowers in an area away from walls or cement. Additionally, digging up bulbs and roots to overwinter indoors may be preferrable to keeping them in the ground.
